How many times have you googled looking for pictures/images? A lot I can bet, as I do as well. But did you ever think hmmmm.... this is part of organic searching??? Well it is!!!
Check out what our friends at Oakley Sign have to say.
Search Engine Optimization for Real Estate Images
Increase exposure with simple image optimization.
Image searches are a major form of organic search engine traffic these days. If you want to capture some of that traffic for your listings, there are some simple things you can do to increase the odds that searches for your address, neighborhood, or region will result in drawing traffic to your listings. Step #1: Optimize your images for speed
One mistake agents make is allowing the thumbnail images of their properties to be "scaled down" version of the full size original image. Instead, the thumbnail image should be a separate, optimized image so the page will load quickly. If you have fifteen or twenty thumbnail images on a page, a few kilobytes per photo can add up to significant savings! Free tools like ImageOptimizer and Picnik.com can help you find a balance between file size and quality.
Step #2: Use descriptive file names
File names which match common keywords can help boost visibility in search engines. Let's say someone is looking for an Ormond Beach, Florida condo. Which do you think will draw more traffic from searches?: img018273.jpg or ormond-beach-condo.jpg?
Some alternate naming strategies include using address information (123-main-street-stockton-ca.jpg), neighborhood names (hunters-creek-house.jpg), and amenity descriptions (123-main-st-renovated-kitchen.jpg).
Step #3: Use descriptive "alt tags"
"Alt tags" describe the contents of photos for search engines. While you might see "ranch style home" when you look at a photo, search engines can't.
Give your alt tags simple, short descriptions. For example, within the image tag itself, you would include alt="Kitchen view of 123 Main Street" for a photo of the kitchen.
